We will send an email the day before your shift with the exact location in North Seattle. Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and be sure to bring plenty of water!

Turn local fruit into delicious country wines and ciders. Plums, blackberries, apples and even pea pods can be used to produce homemade wines of surprising quality. Learn how to turn fruit gleaned from local trees and the produce of your garden into refreshing alcoholic drinks. (21 and over, please!)

In this class we will:
·           Discuss the history of beer, cider, mead and wine.
·           Learn about the fermentation process, including types of yeast and necessary equipment.
·           Go through the process from start to finish including breaking down fruit, pitching yeast, racking and bottling.
·           Make a 1 gallon batch of country wine to take home to ferment.

This class will take place indoors with hands-on kitchen activities. Go home with a jar of (soon-to-be) wine to taste and enjoy!  When registering for this class the cost you pay will include class fee ($36/$25 for members) plus a $35 materials fee that includes a 1 gallon demijohn, stopper and airlock, juice, yeast etc.  This class is for adults 21+, please bring valid ID with you to class.

In this class, we will discuss:

·         Starting with chicks
·         Caring for adult birds including what to feed them and how to keep them safe and healthy
·         Coop requirements and other necessary supplies
·         Managing your flock and ongoing maintenance

Go home equipped with the basic information you need to decide if keeping chickens is right for you and ready to get started.

Keeping bees in a top bar hive can be a more natural, “bee-centric” way of keeping honey bees.  Join beekeeper Rae Rome to learn more about the advantages of top bar and how to manage bees using this hive method. 

In this class we will discuss:
·         Different hive styles, comparing Langstroth, Warre and Top Bar design elements
·         Top-bar hive management including installation, comb manipulation and comb management 
·         Treatment-free pest management and knowing when to implement more conventional practices
·         Why management decisions are made rather than listing the specific steps to perform throughout the season

Join Seattle Tilth for a free, hands-on workshop all about getting “water smart” in your yard and garden, from soaker hoses and drip irrigation to rain gardens and cisterns (and everything in between). For this workshop in Skyway, we’ll focus on getting ready for fall weather by taking a look at rain barrels, cisterns and other practical solutions for your yard and garden. Participants will receive free resources and great door prizes to get started right away!
