August Farm is a small-scale, pasture based, diversified livestock farm located 30 miles south of Olympia, Washington. Our priority is to provide our livestock with the highest animal welfare and supply our community with the highest quality meat. All of our animals graze on pasture and are fed certified organic, non-GMO, non-soy feed. They are raised outside in a safe, comfortable environment that honors their natural instincts. We sell whole chickens through our Chicken CSA program and on our farm; our whey-fed pork is sold by the half or whole and we'll have heritage turkey for Thanksgiving. Please see our website for details about our Chicken CSA, the most convenient way to have pasture-raised chicken in your freezer year-round. We have four share sizes to choose from with four sessions per year. Drop sites are located in Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle and Bellevue. We raise slow-growing broiler chickens.
Our chickens were imported from France from breeding stock developed in the 1960s to meet the highest standards of the French Label Rouge free-range program. Our chickens are grown to an age between ten and twelve weeks. The more natural growing period results in superior, old-fashion tasting chicken with a deep, rich flavor our grandparents would recognize. Because our chickens grow slower they do not suffer from the numerous health problems that Cornish Cross chickens (industrial standard breed) experience. Our pigs are raised outside where they can graze, root and run in the sunshine. They are fed local and/or certified organic grain, whey from local dairies and produce from local organic farms. Whey is a by-product of cheese making. It is a traditional feed source for pigs, rich in calcium, protein and trace minerals. Whey-fed pork is tender, juicy, full-flavored and nutritious.
