Food-producing plants including fruiting shrubs, trees, and edible perennials with a focus on dense nutrition and therapeutic properties.
Calendula Farm is a small scale producer of high quality foods. We grow plants and animals with the purpose of enriching and sustaining healthful living in our local community of the South Puget Sound. We raise poultry and rabbits for meat and eggs, fruiting trees and shrubs, vegetable starts for the home gardener, and produce exclusively for our CSA members.
We grow nutrient-dense plants for gardeners interested in producing their own sustainable healthful foods and medicines. Our plants range from common to exotic, including a good selection of Northwest native edibles. Here at Calendula Farm we thrive on diversity, offering many variations of plants to suit your preferences such as 15 types of Blueberries, 7 kinds of Elderberries, 4 varieties of Currants, and a growing array of Caneberries. We love our Super Foods too, like Goji, Sea Buckthorn, Aronia, and Black Raspberry. Tree fruits include Quince, Cherries, Apples, Mulberries, Cornelian Cherries, Service Berries, Plums, and Hardy Almonds. We are always expanding our range of medicinal herbs and have an excellent selection this year for making your own remedies. Find us on Facebook.
Growing Methods: Our philosophy and practice in farming can be described as permaculture, but we do not subscribe to any specific methodology. Our goal is to integrate all aspects of our farming activities and be as self-sustaining as possible. We practice pasture rotation, plant fruit trees in and around the pastures to provide shade as well as food for the animals. We compost manure and use it to fertilize the vegetable gardens & potted nursery stock, and we grow giant sunflowers, corn, amaranth, flax and squash around the farm property for in-house animal feed. Our animals are raised in open pastures with room to run, flap, fly and forage just as they are designed to. Our plants are grown in soil, outside, and are kept healthy naturally, without the use of pesticides or herbicides.
CSA Information: Our CSA is year-round and has no deadlines. Pick up is each Saturday at the Proctor Farmer's Market 9am-2pm, by appointment at the farm, and home delivery by appointment. We offer anything produced at Calendula Farm including meats, plants, pet treats & more. CSA members are entitled to special offerings and new products before the general public and are given preference for holiday meats like turkey, goose, and pheasant. Our program is simple - the larger the share you purchase, the greater the discount you receive on anything you buy from us.
