Early Bird Farm
- Farmers Markets
We grow a little bit of everything using sustainable growing practices at our small farm in the Puyallup River Valley. Share in the delicious bounty by visiting us at Seattle and Tacoma farmers markets or by joining our unique CSA. CSA members meet the farmers each week at pickup sites in Ballard or on the farm and choose from a "market style" spread of veggies as well as berries, fruit, herbs, and our incredible eggs!
Farming practices: We use only sustainable, chemical-free growing practices. For example, we fallow half our vegetable fields each year and rejuvenate them by growing cover crops and letting our chickens graze and fertilize them. We deal with weeds the old fashioned way: by hand and with a hoe. Insect pests never get sprayed, and although we suffer some crop loss, crop rotations, row covers, and biodiversity around the farm manage the bugs pretty well. Our egg-laying chickens are truly pasture-raised and you will taste the difference. They spend their whole lives outside and are rotated around our green pastures in their mobile coops. They are fed certified organic, certified non-GMO, soy-free feed, sprouted whole grains, and lots of fresh veggies from the farm.
CSA details: Our CSA runs 20 weeks from mid-June through the end of October. Pickup is in Ballard, on the farm (near Tacoma and Puyallup), or in Graham.
CSA members receive a weekly share of the best our farm has to offer, at a discount over farmers market prices. Each week, we'll set up a market style display of what's fresh and in season on the farm. The share includes a mix of 7-8 different vegetables plus a 1/2 pint of berries and/or a some fruit depending on what's ripe. You can swap out items to suit your own taste. The quality, taste, and diversity of our produce each week is something we are truly proud of. Stay tuned to hear about our CSA member picnic on the farm in August!. Find us on Facebook.
