Organic Farm School

- Wholesale Quantities
Through our comprehensive farmer training program, students at the Organic Farm School produce certified organic, seasonal vegetables for farmers markets, a 70-member CSA, and several direct-to-retail accounts. Pastured chickens, lambs, and pigs for direct-sale and retail, and vegetable seed crops for organic seed companies. Additionally, OFS has a research component, collaborating with several partner institutions on reduced tillage research, variety trials, and organic vegetable breeding. The OFS mission is to train new farmers to develop and manage small farms focused on ecological, economic, and social sustainability. OFS offers a full-time, 8-month, experiential program designed for aspiring farmers to learn and practice the skills they need to run a successful small-scale organic farm. Through attending weekly lectures, discussions, and demonstrations on topics including organic crop and livestock production, soil science, business planning, and direct marketing, as well as cooperatively managing the nine-acre student farm, participants receive a thorough education in organic small farm management that equips them to start their own farms or manage those of others.
CSA details: Fresh produce picked day of delivery. Optional broiler chickens. 23 weeks from May to November. Pick-up locations in Seattle and Whidbey Island. EBT accepted.
Farm practices: All of our vegetables and seeds are certified organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Our chickens are fed entirely with certified organic feed, are raised on certified organic pasture, are moved onto fresh grass every day, and are let out of their coops during the day to graze freely. Our lambs and pigs are fed certified organic feed, and are intensively grazed, getting moved onto fresh pasture every few days so that they always have access to the healthiest, freshest growth.
